2009 Training Opportunity:


• Missing and Exploited Children: Response Initiatives and Awareness for: Call-Takers, First Responders, Investigators, First-Line Supervisors, and Child Protection Professionals
- A full day, specialized training course on the swift and successful investigation of reports involving missing and exploited children was held in late 2009 at the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department Training Facility. During his presentation, Wayne Sheppard of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children discussed the scope and scale of incidents, intra- and inter-agency response, implementation of planned responses, policies and procedures, pre-incident planning and investigative/support resources. This was a low cost training sponsored by the SEWCRSG. The $10 registration fee covered the cost of a buffet lunch for each attendee. There was 1 training session with 54 attendees representing 20 agencies.

2008 Training Opportunity:

• Amber Alert, Dispatcher Customer Service and WisDOT STOC Tour
- A full day training course on Amber Alerts, Dispatch Customer Service and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Statewide Traffic Operations Center (STOC) was held at the STOC. Representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Justice discussed the protocol for the Amber Alert System. Information on how the system works as well as case studies of missing children were discussed. JoAnne Hollmann from ProTelecomm, Inc. shared methods for dealing with the public effectively and empathetically. JoAnne also examined techniques for dealing with and relating to different callers and held open discussion on how dispatchers can provide beneficial customer service. Attendees were also given a brief overview and tour of the STOC. This was the first low cost dispatcher training provided by the SEWCRSG. The $15 registration fee covered the cost of a boxed lunch for each attendee and travel costs for some of the trainers. There was 1 training session with 24 attendees representing 17 agencies.
